- More than 1,000 OMODA C9 SUVs have been sold in South Africa since the model launched in November 2024.
- The lineup now includes the C9 PHEV, expanding the model’s offering with plug-in hybrid performance and long-range capability.
- The success forms part of OMODA & JAECOO South Africa’s rapid local growth, with over 20,000 total vehicles sold since 2023.
OMODA’s flagship C9 has surpassed 1,000 retail sales in South Africa since its local introduction in November 2024, marking a significant milestone for the premium model and highlighting the strong reception it has enjoyed among South African motorists.
Reaching this milestone of 1,030 units sold in 15 months represents a notable achievement for a newly introduced premium SUV and reflects the growing momentum behind both the C9 and the OMODA brand in the local market.
Introduced as OMODA’s flagship model, the C9 combines striking design, advanced technology, and high levels of comfort. A 2.0-litre turbopetrol engine producing 192 kW and 400 N.m of torque sends power to the front axle or all four wheels (depending on the variant) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. From launch, the C9 was positioned as a sophisticated alternative for buyers seeking a premium SUV experience.
“The response to the C9 has been extremely encouraging,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. “Surpassing 1,000 sales is a meaningful milestone for a flagship SUV in the premium space and reflects the growing confidence high-end customers have in the OMODA brand.”
The C9’s momentum has also coincided with the continued expansion of OMODA & JAECOO in South Africa. Since entering the market in 2023, the brand has surpassed 20,000 total vehicle sales, underscoring strong consumer demand and an expanding presence nationwide.
The introduction of the C9 PHEV in 2025 has further broadened the model’s appeal, bringing plug-in hybrid capability to the lineup. Combining electrified efficiency with the luxury the C9 has become known for, the plug-in hybrid variant offers an electric-only driving range of up to 150 km, and a combined driving range of 1,100 km. The combined output of 440 kW and 915 N.m of torque provides strong acceleration.
Inside, the C9 emphasises luxury and technology, featuring dual 12.3-inch digital displays, premium audio, wireless smartphone charging, and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. High levels of standard specification and refined interior materials have further strengthened its appeal among customers looking for a well-equipped premium SUV.
With the C9 continuing to gain traction and the PHEV expanding the range, the model remains a key pillar of OMODA’s growing presence in the South African premium SUV market.

The OMODA C5 continues to draw strong interest from South African buyers, with the compact crossover having recorded 16,948 local sales since its introduction in April 2023. The milestone underlines the C5’s continued relevance in one of the country’s most competitive vehicle segments, where buyers are increasingly seeking strong value, distinctive styling, modern technology, and efficient performance.
